15.09  Azenha do Mar

The project for the development and regeneration of the small village of Azenha do Mar started from a careful observation and comprehension of the place. The new urban densification plan was designed to create a hierarchy of the existing public and private spaces in order to create potential new areas of development. Through the simple act of space delimitation, we proposed a new urban limes defining an inside and an outside. A clear geometric shape, the square, will encircle the existing built environment, creating that characteristic identitary quality typical of Portuguese villages. The rebuilt village will become a a sign both in the rural territory and in the coastal geography new visual landmark both for the rural background and for the coastline, creating a new recognisable‏ urban form to anchor the population to its life spaces.
